Fundraising events held in 2016

Thanks to all those who organised or supported our fundraising events, which have included:

  • December 2016 & January 2017 Christmas and Epiphany Services - Charity collections at the Christingle, Crib Service and Epiphany Carols Service raised £650 for the Children's Society. The Service of Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve raised £460 for Christian Aid. The Carols in the Square and one of the Advent Lunches together raised £650 for charity Stonepillow. Thank you to everyone for their generosity.
     
  • December 2016, Church Christmas Lunch - deliciously cooked by the cooking and kitchen helpers. Forty-eight people sat down to lunch and £420 was raised for Westbourne Church funds. Thank you to all who helped and supported this event.
     
  • December 2016, Christmas Fair - a wonderful effort by all special thanks to Jane and her team and to everyone who helped, made things, catered and generally ensured a good event! £1,230 was raised. 
     
  • Advent Friday Lunches 2016 - the Home & Overseas Committee ran its Advent Friday lunches again in 2016, starting on Friday 25 November and then on 2, 9 & 16 December, raising money a number of charities. All those who brought a pair of socks for Stonepillow on the final date were rewarded with a mince pie. Thank you to the Home and Overseas Committee and to all those who generously donated. The next First Friday lunch will be on 6 January 2017 and be in aid of the Church Urban Fund. The sums raised for each charity were:
    • Advent 1    The Church Army, £150
    • Advent 2    Voices in Exile, £150
    • Advent 3    USPG, £150
    • Advent 4    Stonepillow, £215
       
  • December 2016 - the Church collection on 4 December was for the 'Voices in Exile' (VIE) charity which the Bishop of Horsham has asked for churches to support. The charity supports refugees who have been settled in Sussex through the Government's refugee scheme and those who have made their own way to the area to seek asylum. Monies from the Advent Friday lunch on 2 December were also donated to VIE. 
     
  • November 2016, Remembrance Service Appeal - Thank you to everyone who contributed to The Poppy Appeal in Church on which raised the generous sum of £400 including gift aid. The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, the period of Remembrance.
     
  • October 2016, Samara's Aid Appeal  "Many thanks to everyone who provided items and money for the Samara's Aid Winter Clothes Appeal - 20 bags of goodies were transferred to St John's Southbourne, who organised the local collection."  Marjorie
     
  • October 2016, Quiz Night  "Another fun evening together - and we raised £340 for Westbourne Church funds. Well done to everyone and especially the winning team. Many thanks for your support." Carole and Marjorie
     
  • September 2016, Westbourne's event for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning - "Thanks to the generosity of so many people £500 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support at our coffee morning. Gift aid will bring the total even higher." Elisabeth
     
  • August 2016, Summer Fete  "Thanks to everyone for the tremendous help and support for the church fete. The result was a fabulous £2,300 and we must thank Miriam for all her leadership and guidance. Miriam has overseen the running of the fete for five years during which time she has enabled us to raise £13,600, which is a truly magnificent effort." Sue and Paula
     
  • August 2016, Great Sea Tea  "Thank you to everyone who came and was ‘shipwrecked’ on Sunday and supported the Great Sea Tea in the afternoon. The Cream Teas on the Rectory lawn raised £267.50 for the Mission to Seafarers - again hugely up on previous years thanks to those who had been involved in the Duck Race dropping by for welcome refreshments. Thank you to all."  Rona, Val and Frank. The Mission to Seafarers charity provides help and support to the 1.5 million men and women around the world who face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat.
     
  • Christian Aid Coffee Morning - This event held in one of our parishioner's lovely garden raised a superb £291.80 for Christian Aid the largest amount ever for this annual event.
     
  • July 2016, 'A Tail of Two Walks' Dog walk and Picnic for Canine Partners - "£170 plus gift aid was raised for this charity. Thank you to everyone who took part, sent in donations and generally helped support this event for this assistance dogs charity. Thanks in particular to David, who developed the walking routes and led the walkers." Maureen. The Canine Partners charity "transforms the lives of people with physical disabilities by partnering them with assistance dogs. The amazing dogs bring a greater independence and quality of life to their partners, offering security, companionship, and practical help with everyday household tasks."
     
  • June 2016, Leprosy Mission Coffee Morning "Thanks to everyone who provided cakes, plants, bric-a-brac and raffle prizes, and all those who came to support the event which raised £250." Jonathan and Marjorie
     
  • May 2016, Curry Supper in aid of Christian Aid - "Thanks to all those who attended and helped to run the Curry Supper at Westbourne Parish Hall. It raised a wonderful £1,275 including Gift Aid. The Desai family was thrilled with the result and will do their final event next year." Rona.
     
  • May 2016, Christian Aid Week  "Parishioners joined volunteers across the country with street collections during Christian Aid Week (15-21 May 2016). Thanks to all those who took round collections boxes and donated money. Westbourne collected more than £1,800. This included the sale of homemade cakes by the Sunday School." Andrew and Marjorie.
     
  • May 2016, Cake Tasting & Recipe Booklet  "Thanks to all those who suggested recipes, made cakes and supported the recipe booklet on the day. A total of £190 was raised for Westbourne Church funds." Jane.
     
  • Westbourne History Series "More than £7,000 has been raised by the series during the past few years.Thanks to everyone who has been involved and supported this event." Maureen.
