News and Events

Woodmancote Works - thanks to all those who have worked hard to make Woodmancote Church ready for the Carol Service.

Year of Vocation booklets available in Church from this week to guide and enable us all to consider during the months ahead the formation of a spiritual ‘Rule of Life’. These are private to the user, and would build up during the coming six months. In Advent we are invited to begin, considering any patterns to which we wish to commit in terms of Prayer, Penitence and awareness of God’s loving mercy. These booklets are available for anyone wanting to participate.

Christmas Fair - a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the Fair. Despite the poor weather, we raised more than £1,650 for church funds.

A groundbreaking web resource - The new Visual Commentary on the Bible matches three works of art with passages of scripture. Each triptych is chosen by a theologian or an art historian, who also writes a short commentary on each picture, relating it to the Bible passage. Presently there are 50 completed triptychs; and this will increase to 1500 over the coming 7 years, as copyright licences are obtained. Visit thevcs.org and save the site as a bookmark.

Emsworth Community Christmas - If you would like to help, or join, a Christmas Event locally, or to invite a neighbour, see the red & yellow leaflets advertising “Let’s be together this Christmas”.

Reverse Advent Calendar - collecting throughout Advent for Stonepillow and The Trussell Trust. Boxes in St John’s & Parish Hall with explanatory poster.

Prayers in the Cathedral - Our parishes will be prayed for at Chichester Cathedral, our Mother Church, on Wednesday 2 January 2019. This will take place at the 8 am Holy Communion service and at the 5.30pm Evening Prayer (said). A complimentary tea at the Cloisters Cafe will be served at 4.30pm for those wishing to attend the Evening Prayer. There is a sign up board at the back of the Church, alternatively contact Rona Musker.

Help please

Catering committee seeks more members of its team to help at future events. If willing to join, do contact Margaret Bristowe or Angie Leggett (contacts in pew sheet in church).

Sunday Coffee - some more people are needed to fill a gap in the coffee rota, starting from 30 December 2018  Please speak to Anne N or Jane Stuttard.

Church Watch Rota - we like to have our Church open during the day, and it would be helpful to have one or two more watchers - minimum time required is availability one day a month to ensure that the Church is open at 10am and then closed at 3pm. Do ask if you need more details. Marjorie Kipling. Current watchers please let me know your availability for January to March as soon as convenient. Many thanks

Advance Notice - Twelfth Night Food and Fizz, social evening towards church funds. Friday 4 January 2010, 7.30 to 9.30pm. Tickets £10 a head, from Paula Caird.
