News and Events

Our thanks to those who have made our worship and fellowship so special over the Christmas period: our instrumentalists, conductors and singers; those who have cleaned, and filled the churches with flowers; our sacristans, readers, pray-ers, ringers, printers, lift-givers, publicists, servers, welcomers, preachers, mulled-wine pourers, star-constructors and church officers.  Well done, and bless you!

Revd Andrew and Karen Doye thank the many parishioners who have sent us Christmas greetings and good will. We wish you the blessings of a Happy New Year.

Twelfth Night Food and Fizz, social evening towards church funds. Friday 4 January 2019 - 7.30pm. Tickets £10 a head, from Paula Caird.

Year of Vocation booklets available in the Churches for all: to guide and help us to consider the formation of a spiritual ‘Rule of Life’.  These are private to the user, and build up during the coming six months.  In Advent we were invited to consider any patterns by which we wish to shape our Prayer and Penitence; and in this Christmas season, we are invited to consider how we respond to those in need, close at hand and across the world.

Prayers in the Cathedral - Our parish will be prayed for at Chichester Cathedral, our Mother Church, on Wednesday, 2 January 2019. This will take place at the 8.00am Holy Communion service and at the 5.30pm Evening Prayer (said). A complimentary tea at the Cloisters Cafe will be served at 4.30pm for those wishing to attend the Evening Prayer. There is a sign-up board at the back of church or contact Rona M.

A ground-breaking web resource The new Visual Commentary on the Bible matches three works of art with passages of scripture. Each triptych is chosen by a theologian or an art historian, who also writes a short commentary on each picture, relating it to the Bible passage. Presently there are 50 completed triptychs; and this will increase to 1500 over the coming 7 years, as copyright licences are obtained.  Visit thevcs.org and save the site as a bookmark.

Help please - Catering committee seeks more members of its team to help at future events. If willing to join, do contact Margaret B or Angie L.

Follow The Star - Hand-crafted stars have been created and are in the church welcome area if you wish to add a message. Stars will remain on display until Epiphany, 6 January 2019.

Giving - If you are able to make a regular contribution to the Church, the preferred method of giving is using the Parish Giving Scheme. Leaflets are at the back of our churches or contact a Churchwarden.

In December 2018, we passed £1/4M donated to our parish via the Parish Giving Scheme. This includes nearly £50k in Gift Aid and more than £15k in inflationary and voluntary increases in giving. Thank you all. Jonathan Kipling

Plastic Milk Bottle Tops ONLY please. We currently have a Charity outlet for clean, plastic milk bottle tops for recycling.  So please do not leave any other types of bottle tops as they are not recyclable in WestSussex.  Thank you.

A New Year's Prayer
Lord, You make all things new.  You bring hope alive in our hearts
and cause our Spirits to be born again.
Thank you for this new year, and for all the potential it holds.
Come and kindle in us a mighty flame so that in our time, many will see the wonders of God and live forever to praise Your glorious name.  Amen
