News and Events

Two tremendous Carol Services coming up.  Do join us.  Woodmancote Church carols on 15 December 2019 at 6pm;  Nine Lessons and Carols in St John the Baptist Church, Westbourne on 22 December at 7pm.  Thanks to all singers & musicians, presently in preparation for these events.  

A big thank you to everyone who generously donated their goods or time to make the Christmas Fair a bigsuccess last Saturday.  The final result is just over £1,800. ​​Jane Stuttard

Follow The Star. Many hand-crafted stars have been created which will be hung in the church. Further stars are available in the welcome area at St John the Baptist if you wish to add a message.  When displayed, the stars will be hung in the church until Epiphany 6th January. Join us on Friday, 20th December at 6.00pm in the churchyard when a very special star will be illuminated to shine out in Westbourne. Followed with carols, mulled wine and mince pies inside.

Coming soon for children:

- Crib Service, Christmas Eve.
Westbourne Church invites parents and children for this much-loved service 
at 4pm on Christmas Eve. Songs and story bring Christmas alive.   

All are welcome.  If your child wants to come dressed as a shepherd, angel or king .. well, all the better!

TOTS’ TIME:   Monday mornings at 09.30 in the Church, weekly from 20 January 2019.

A new event allowing pre-school children and their parent/carer to join, in a safe and happy setting.  A fun act of worship for little ones: songs and percussion, stories and sharing; short and snappy with refreshments.

Next Deanery Prayer Gatherings – Saturday, 21 December 2019 at West Dean Church at 9.30am and Saturday, 18 January at Woodmancote Church at 9.30am.

Christingle Candles If you have a Children’s Society candle that you are filling with change, please return it in a collection plate by the end of December.

Used Stamps  The Bible Society is collecting used stamps to raise funds for their work.  There is a red box in the Welcome Area in church for all British and foreign stamps. Please leave a small amount of the envelope still attached.   

Blue Gift Aid Envelopes  Please complete your name and address on a blue envelope if you are able to Gift Aid your donation to the Church.  Thank you.

Bible Reading Fellowship booklets, for January to April 2020 are now in pigeon holes for subscribers, and I have spares if wanted. Cost is £4.60 per booklet. Other BRF information is in the Welcome Area, including the interesting BRF News (with an article about 'Bible Reflections for Older People'). Any orders via me  (Dennis F).

Items needed:

  • Marmalade making.  Jam jars are needed please in the New Year when the marmalade season arrives. Please bring empty jars to church. Marjorie Kipling
  • Children’s shakers. Wanted, plastic, rounded containers (with tops) to gill and make hand-held percussion instruments: ideally, 4-8 inches high.  Andrew Doye
