NEWS and EVENTS

LENT GROUPS: the four groups are now full. However, it may be possible to make adjustments for latecomers. If you have not been able to sign-up and would like to join a group please speak to the Rector or contact Roddy R.

Tuesday 12 March 2019, 7.00pm Special evening in the church with two speakers sharing their experiences of working with displaced people. Aiden Berry from Médecins Sans Frontières, is a very experienced logistician who has worked in a variety of places including South Sudan. Michael Woolley who is Chairman of Friends with our Borders, a charity that provides support for asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants within the Portsmouth area.

Refurbished Notice Boards  - see the beautiful paint work on the boards at the lych gate and in the churchyard overlooking Westbourne Road.

UPROOTED and DISPLACED  Exhibition - Westbourne Church is lucky to be able to host the Christian Aid exhibition which is touring the country to raise awareness of the 40 million internally displaced people around the world. Please take time to read view the stories from Iraq, Kenya and Nigeria.

Pancake Breakfast, 16 Mar 2019 - An event for Church funds, run by students of Bourne College who recently used the Hall for their own fundraising. Do come.

40 days – 40 items.  Stuck for something to give up for Lent? Why not take one item from your house each day, which you don’t still use or wear, and put it in a bag. At the end of Lent, donate the items to a charity shop or homeless shelter.

Woodmancote Church OPEN Day Saturday 30 March from 11.00am-3.00pm (with an act of dedication at 2.15pm).  Refreshments on offer.  Please drop in at some time to see the refurbished Church.

Churchyard tidy: Saturday 23 March 2019, 9am. All help needed. Bring any tools.

New Electoral Roll  - This year the church electoral roll has to be fully revised.   Anyone wishing to be on the new roll must fill in an application form, even if your name is on the current one.  Forms are to the right inside the north door at St John’s.  No addresses will be published.  Completed applications are needed by Sunday 31st March.  Please put them in the ‘B’ pigeon hole marked with my name, or send to my address. Many thanks. Marmalade  -  thanks to those who produced marmalade, and supported that Festival on 2nd March.  A great total of £511.60 was raised for church funds.

Supper Lecture.  A huge thank-you to everyone involved in making the evening such a successful one - Tracy even offered to return again!  £ Result next week!

Open the Book - we still have room for others to join our team bringing bible stories into local schools. Please make yourself known soon (the next training session is 25 March). Contacts in church.

Annual Church Meeting, Wed 24 April, 7.30pm: at least three places will be available on the Church Council (‘PCC’) and one place on the Deanery Synod. If wishing to stand, or know more, speak with an existing member or the Rector.
