News and Events

Sunday 17 November 2019 - Talk by theatre director, Roger Redfarn followed by a Cream Tea. In the Parish Hall at 3.00 pm. Tickets still available at £8.

… and followed in the evening, at 6pm, by Choral Evensong, for all who’d like to join us across the road in the Parish Church.

Morning Prayer takes place in St John the Baptist Church at 08:30 to 09:00 every weekday morning.  This is part of the calling of our churches to pray for our nation, communities and Diocese, together with those with current needs known to our own community. I am deeply appreciative of those who join to be a part of this fellowship of intercession. It can be a regular day of the week, or entirely occasional: your presence is very welcome. Someone will have been rota’d to lead the liturgy that morning and nobody attending would feel uncomfortable in what is asked. If you can sometimes manage this half an hour in the morning, please just turn up when the opportunity arises. Books are provided. Andrew Doye, Rector

Next Deanery Prayer Gatherings –Thursday 5 December 2019 at St Nicholas, West Thorney at 12 noon and Saturday 21 December 2019 at West Dean Church, PO18 0QZ at 9.30am.

Volunteers Wanted: please speak to Marjorie Kipling if you could help.

1. For Delivery of Westbourne Magazine once a month

2. To undertake Church Watch duty – possibly on 2nd Tuesday each month or the 2nd or 3rd Friday.

Pianists wanted - Do we have any volunteers please who can play the piano to a simple level (or better) and have some daytime availability? I am raising a small team for a regular children’s service from the New Year and need to hear from you now. Andrew Doye, Rector.

Saturday 23 November 2019 - Be Still's next study day. Father Brian Murphy, a parish vicar and former monk, will be speaking about 'Mindful Reading of the Bible: Benedictine Prayer in Today's World'. The workshop / day retreat will be a blend of spiritual education and experiential sessions with ample time for questions, answers, and feedback. At the Vicars' Hall, Chichester Cathedral, between 10:30am and 3:00pm (doors open for coffee and tea at 10:00am). The cost is £10 for the day, payable at the door. Lunch is not provided so you may like to take a packed lunch, or there are many cafes and restaurants nearby.

Cards - W/c Sunday 24 November - delivery of Christmas events cards to all households in the village – your help would be much welcomed.

On Friday 29 November 2019, Westbourne Parish will be prayed for at Chichester Cathedral, our Mother Church, as is usual around once each year. Our parishioners are very welcome to join in the Cathedral's worship on that day: at 8am Holy Communion; or the 5.30pm evening service (which is expected to be Sung Evensong). There is a small complimentary tea from 4.30pm in the Cloisters Cafe for any from Westbourne or Woodmancote attending that evening. There is a sign-up sheet in the Welcome area at St John the Baptist Church so please put your name down, indicating whether you would like tea and/or a lift.
