News and Events

Thanks to all who attend the Roger Redfarn talk and cream tea last Sunday.  It raised £390 - a very pleasing result.

Next Deanery Prayer Gatherings - Thursday 5 December 2019 at St Nicholas, West Thorney at 12 noon (ID required to enter the Thorney Island Base) and Saturday 21 December at West Dean Church, PO18 0QZ at 9.30am.

Christmas Fair - 7 December 2019. It is very soon, and there is an urgent need for donations: chocolates, bottles of soft drink/shampoo etc, toys, jewellery, preserves, 'as new' gifts , and cakes/ sweets (on the day). Please speak to Jane Stuttard or stall holders listed on notice in the Welcome Area. Thank you.

Robina R is also collecting boxes or Christmas tins to display cakes.

Used Stamps - The Bible Society is collecting used stamps to raise funds for their work.  There is a red box in the Welcome Area in church for all British and foreign stamps, so please bring them with a small amount of the envelope still attached. Thank you

Hall kitchens: we have been asked by Chichester District Council to register as a food outlet. There are various reasons for this. If you are in any way involved in serving from the kitchens Drop Ins, Sunday coffee, Suppers, Friday lunches, Christmas etc. you will need to be aware of what we have to do. There will be a brief meeting after Church on the 1 December and this will be repeated for those who can't make that Sunday on Monday 2 December 2019 in the small room of the hall at 12 noon. The purpose of the meeting is to explain why this has come about and what we will need to do to comply. It's important! Thanks Andrew Turner

This week please help with Christmas Card Deliveries - Bundles of cards for delivery to all homes in the parish are ready for distribution. Maps are provided - you could explore a part of the parish with which you are less familiar.

Friday 29 November 2019, Westbourne Parish will be prayed for at Chichester Cathedral, our Mother Church. Parishioners are very welcome to join in the Cathedral's worship on that day: at 8.00am Holy Communion; or 5.30pm evening service (probably Sung Evensong). There is a small complimentary tea from 4.30pm in the Cloisters Cafe for any from Westbourne or Woodmancote attending that evening. There is a sign-up sheet in the Welcome area at St John the Baptist Church so please put your name down, indicating whether you would like tea and/or a lift.  Rona Musker

Saturday 30 November 2019 - Church cleaning/polishing morning from 9.00am.  Please bring dusters, polish, brasso and cobweb brushes.

Christmas Lunch, Sunday 15 December 2019, 12.30pm for 1.00pm. Tickets at £15 for a two course lunch (£8 for children). Please sign the list on the Noticeboard by Sunday 1st December to indicate your menu preferences if you wish to come

Volunteers Wanted:  please speak to Marjorie Kipling if you could help.

2. To undertake Church Watch duty – possibly on 2nd Tuesday each month or the 2nd or 3rd Friday.

Pianists wanted (now!) Do we have any volunteers please who can play the piano to a simple level (or better) and have some daytime availability?  I am raising a small team for a regular children’s service from the New Year and need to hear from you now.  Andrew Doye, Rector.

Stonepillow - Thank you to everyone who has brought in goods for Stonepillow, they are always so grateful. We will be collecting socks and pants for them at the First Friday Lunch in 6th December, in exchange for a mince pie. The lunch will raise funds for Crisis at Christmas.
