God of compassion, whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary, shared the life of a home in Nazareth, and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself: strengthen us in our daily living that in joy and in sorrow we may know the power of your presence to bind together and to heal; through Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen.

Ukraine Collections

The coming weeks until Easter we welcome cash collections, in the marked box at church, for humanitarian efforts to support the people of Ukraine (including refugees who have already fled the country). Proceeds will be given to the Disasters Emergency Committee who have 15 British charities working on the ground. Direct payments to the DEC can also be made through the website dec.org.uk  

 

Monday Drop-in

Worship during Lent

The Rector writes, this is a special time of Christian devotion. Perhaps consider joining us for weekly morning prayer on-line at 0830 for half an hour, Mon to Fri; and/or for evening worship in Holy Week, at 7.30pm in church from Mon 11 to Thurs 14 April 2022.

A candle burns in the North Chapel for the people of Ukraine.

Opportunity to help prepare for Easter from 9am on Saturday 2 April 2022, Church cleaning and polishing, please bring your own cloths and brasso.

Lent Lectures - Revd Barbara Watson-Hammond leads our parish Lent course on the Turning of the Bible into Modern English. The sessions run on two more Tuesdays, 29 March to 5 April, at 2pm in the Hall, and again at 7.30pm at the Rectory. The sessions deepen our understanding of the Scriptures and their part in our Christian identity. Newcomers can join at any point in the course, though please let the Rector know if you are coming newly to an evening session.

The Octagon parish offers its own series of lectures after compline, 7pm St Peter’s East Marden, running up to Holy Week. The final two are:

Revision of Electoral Roll April 2022  

The churches’ Electoral Roll is being revised ahead of the Annual Meeting (‘APCM’) on 1 May 2022. To have your name added to the roll, please complete the blank form available at the North door of St John’s church. Then return the form to me or the Rector, or leave in the ‘B’ pigeon hole.  losing date for new forms is Sunday 10 April 2022. If your name is already on the roll you do not need to fill in another form. However, if address/contact details have changed in the last year please e-mail me the changes. Parochial Church Council Elections

At the APCM on Sunday 1 May 2022, elections will be held including those to fill vacancies in the PCC. If you would like to stand, or to know more, please speak with the Rector, Church Wardens or any other existing members.
