Volunteer Week, 1-7 June 2022
Across the land we celebrate this week the work of volunteers in any number of causes and organisations. Our own churches flourish only because of the hard work put into their activities and services to the community. Something of this was shared at the recent Annual Parochial Church Meeting, where we thanked those coming to an end of their stints of service on PCC and, in the case of the wonderful Jane Stuttard, as a churchwarden; and also thanked those, such as new churchwarden, Andrew Turner, taking on fresh responsibilities.Thank you all, in whatever context you serve our community.

The Chalice at Communion
The PCC this week authorised the return of the chalice at Holy Communion at the earliest practical opportunity, in common with steps being taken at many other places of worship. This will be for us from 1 June at our smaller services (midweek, 8am and Woodmancote); and possibly as soon as 12 June 2022 at our 09.30am service in
the parish church. We anticipate that worshippers will vary in their take-up of this resumed opportunity. Any not wishing to take the cup will be fully respected in refraining; this is a personal decision. We plan a helpful choreography at 09.30am to allow administration to proceed smoothly; this will include the use of a communion station in the north aisle, but will not for the moment at 0930 include use of the altar at the east end. Participants will not in future be allowed to ‘intinct’, that is ‘to dip a wafer’, which has been disapproved as a method by the central Church. It is reaffirmed that communion takes place with equal validity, whether in one kind (bread OR wine) or in both (bread AND wine).

Summer Fete – Saturday 23 July 2022 from 11am
Punch & Judy are booked, but we need lots of helpers, both on the day and with preparations in advance. Could you run a stall or a side-show, make jam or cakes, grow plants or help with publicity to make a great occasion? Please offer your help now to Angie Leggett (01243 377825).

Ukraine - We continue to encourage prayer for the people of Ukraine, and to use the Parish Church as a quiet place of contemplation in which
to do so. A pillar candle burns in the north chapel each day. We direct those who wish to make further contribution to do so through DEC.

Fund Raising Event for Ukraine – Tree and Teas, Sunday 29 May 2022, 2:30 – 5:00pm at Church House, Westbourne Road (Opposite the War Memorial). Come and see a 14m Tulip Tree in flower! One of Westbourne’s special trees. Tea and cakes in our garden. Raffle with a star prize. All donations (cash only) to DEC to support Ukraine.

Christian Aid Week – 15-21 May 2022
Envelopes from our delivery around the village should be returned by Sunday 29 May 2022 if possible. Thank you to everyone who supported the Coffee Morning in Rona’s garden, when £388.40 was raised for Christian Aid.

Coffee Morning in aid of The Leprosy Mission
Please join us at Cranberry, North Street for coffee on Tuesday 14 June 2022, 10-12 noon. We have supported the Mission for many years. Every two minutes, someone is diagnosed with leprosy: that's more than 200,000 new cases a year. Although it is curable, millions of people worldwide live with the effects of leprosy, from physical disability to mental health problems, poverty and discrimination. The Mission aims to help these people.
