News and EventsChurchyard Work Party - Thank you to all who worked hard in the Church and churchyard at St John the Baptist Church. Everyone appreciates the hard work that ensures our premises are a place of community welcome and holy space. UPROOTED and DISPLACED Exhibition in Westbourne Church finishes on Friday 29 March 2019. Do take time to read the stories of some of the 40 million internally displaced people from around the world. Woodmancote Church Open Day Saturday 30 March 2019 from 11.00am-3.00pm (with an act of dedication at 2.15pm). Refreshments on offer. Please drop in at some time during the day to see the refurbished Church, and offer a prayer. New Electoral Roll - This year the church electoral roll has to be fully revised. Anyone wishing to be on the new roll must fill in an application form, even if your name is on the current one. Forms are to the right inside the north door at St John’s. No addresses will be published. Completed applications to Margaret B by Sunday 31 March 2019, either directly, or via the ‘B’ pigeon hole marked with her name. Posies for Mothering Sunday - Calling gents and under 18s to help for an hour at St John the Baptist Church from 10-11.00am on Saturday 30 March 2019. Damian Hinds MP, Education Secretary: Spring Lecture – Friday 5 April 2019, 6pm at St Mary’s Church, Petworth GU28 0AD, on 'Developing Character Through Education'. The Bishop of Horsham will chair this important meeting. Tuesday 12 March 2019 evening talks: Thank you to those who supported our two interesting talks from organisations working with Displaced People. Your donations totalled £150. We had an inspirational talk from Aiden Berry about Médecins sans Frontières which was followed by Michael Woolley explaining the impressive work with refugees of Friends without Borders in Portsmouth. 40 days – 40 items. Stuck for something to give up for Lent? Why not take one item from your house each day, which you don’t use or wear any longer, and put it in a bag. At the end of Lent, donate the items to a charity shop or homeless shelter. Further Quiet Day - I have room for up to two more people wishing to join me at Birdham for a Quiet Day on Monday, 25th March, 10-4pm. There is no structured input, but you would bring your own materials and lunch, and silence will be kept. Lifts provided. Let me know if interested. Revd Andrew Doye Annual Church Meeting, Wednesday 24 April 2019, 7.30pm - at least three places will be available on the Church Council (‘PCC’) and one place on the Deanery Synod. If wishing to stand, or know more, speak with an existing member or the Rector. Parish Council Elections 2 May 2019 - Richard Hitchcock, Chairman, encourages anyone from our churches who would like to become a parish councillor. Nomination forms available from the Parish Clerk at clerk@westbourne-pc.gov.uk In this Year of Vocation we have been invited to shape a personal Rule of Life (using the blue cards that are in the churches). In Advent, we considered a resolution as to how/when we would pray. At Christmas, we determined ways we would be generous (a ‘gift to the world’, reflecting God’s great Gift). And now, in Lent, we may wish to add to our Rule of Life, ways in which we will fashion greater time and quality of attention for those near to us, and how we might reduce waste in our living. Christian Aid envelopes were given out following the visit from Mark Johnson, on 10 March 2019. Please feel free to return them through the collection plate anytime up to the end of Lent.
